Details: We come together to commemorate the forced removal and enslavement of our Ancestors; to mourn the death of millions of Africans who were sacrificed to a cruel and unjust system and to pay homage to those who resisted and survived.

Breaking the Chains - Exhibition

'Breaking the Chains', a ground-breaking exhibition about Britain and the slave trade, opens Spring 2007. Planned to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade the exhibition will act as the centrepiece of the South West's commemoration rogramme. 'Breaking the Chains' will occupy an entire floor of the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum and has been developed in partnership with Bristol City Council\'s Museums, Galleries and Archives service.

Details :
An exhibition of objects from the Bolton Museum and Archives collection that explore the impact and legacy of the history of slavery on Bolton and Greater Manchester. The exhibits will be situated in the portico of the Museum. The Curator of Local History will be on hand all day on Saturday 24 March to discuss the relevance of Slavery to local history and collect feedback from visitors. During 2007 a trail of exhibits related to slavery will be developed around the Museum galleries, with members of the public helping to write the labels. A whole series of events in museums and galleries across greater Manchester are planned for this year.
