ANTI-SLAVERY HOLDS THIRD FUNDRAISING BALL

The Magic Ball, in aid of Anti-Slavery's work, will take place on 30 October 1999 at the Savoy.

Guests expected include Shakira Caine, Joan Collins, Christopher Biggins (who will be acting as auctioneer) and Anthea Turner. The event will be co-hosted by Anna Ryder Richardson (Changing Rooms) and David Prever (DJ for Heart Radio), and will be exclusively covered by Hello! magazine.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Patron of the Ball, said: "It is commonly believed that slavery no longer exists. Sadly this is not true. I commend Anti-Slavery for proclaiming the inhumanity of the present situation".

The Magic Ball will help raise much needed funds for Anti-Slavery's Campaign against Bonded Labour, launched on 27 October at the 1999 Anti-Slavery Award ceremony. The winners are two Indian activists who have set up organisations which release bonded labourers and provide them with the necessary skills to remain free.

The evening promises to be truly magical with performances from Lawrence Layton, a team of magicians as well as a special song by Filipa Jeronimo. There will be dancing to the Groovin' High Band.
