New website strengthens fight against human trafficking

Anti-Slavery International, the world's oldest international human rights organisation, has launched an exciting new campaign website: www.stophumantraffic.org strengthening the fight against human trafficking. Designed by tincan ltd, the Stop Human Traffic website is now active.

For the first time, Anti-Slavery is using on-line postcards to spread the word about our campaign. The public will discover the new site via an e-card sent from a friend. The message reads: "To find out where XXX wishes you were, click here". A choice of four cards featuring such popular holiday destinations as Florida or Italy will open - but there's a twist…! The enticing image disguises the realities of these locations as destinations for victims of trafficking.

"Hundreds of thousands of women, children and men are trafficked each year in Europe, Africa, the Americas and Asia - no region is exempt. Traffickers use coercion and deception to lure those who are most vulnerable into slavery. The Internet is an effective means by which the public can learn about this abuse and take action to stop it," Mary Cunneen, Director of Anti-Slavery International said.

Via the e-card, you can:
  • read first-hand accounts from victims of trafficking;
  • sign Anti-Slavery's petition calling on governments to make stopping this abuse a priority;
  • be directed to a link so you can write to your MP calling for a law criminalizing trafficking in the UK;
  • take part in a country specific action - currently Russia - by emailing the relevant government, and urge it to take action against trafficking; and
  • join Anti-Slavery's Stop Human Traffic Campaign Network.

A tracker page helps the user keep track of which steps against trafficking she or he has taken so far.
