UK promises to mark
abolition bicentennial
The UK Government initiated a debate in Parliament on slavery in
light of 2004 as the UN International Year to Commemorate the
Struggle Against Slavery and its Abolition and the forthcoming
2007 bicentenary of Britain's abolition of the slave trade and its
territories.
The 14 October session drew attention to the Slave Trade's legacy
and slavery today. Throughout, Anti-Slavery International was recognised
as a force both in historical and contemporary slavery...

In November 2004, Ilguilas Weila, President of Timidria, came to
London to accept the 2004 Anti-Slavery Award on behalf of his organisation.
Timidria received the Award for its pioneering work against slavery
in Niger and successful campaign for amendments to Niger law which
now defines, prohibits and punishes slavery....

Berndt visited our partner the Pastoral Land Commission (CPT) in Brazil
to find out the latest on forced labour in Amazonia.
